DNV GL Award for Young Professionals: Driving efficiency in shipping

Classification society DNV GL rewarded three engineers for their scientific research and presented them with the DNV GL Award for Young Professionals. This year’s theme was finding innovative ideas for increasing the efficiency of ships and their operation. As well as seeking out the best new research, the award aims to support young professionals in the maritime field and demonstrates how varied and interesting the engineering profession can be.

DNV GL JIP urges natural gas industry to ‘be ready for hydrogen’

Transmission and distribution system operators (TSOs and DSOs) in the natural gas sector are under increasing pressure to reduce CO2 emissions and increase access to the natural gas infrastructure for renewable gases. However there are currently no existing guidelines for the preparation of these networks for the injection of hydrogen produced from renewable sources. To address this, DNV GL has initiated a global joint industry project (JIP) ‘HYREADY’. Stakeholders from the natural gas value chain, including natural gas TSOs and DSOs, and technology providers have already signed up. The project remains open for other participants to join.

At the moment however, obtaining and extracting the maximum potential from this vast amount of data can be difficult for individual ship operators. Comprehensive access to Big Data sources and a range of expertise enables DNV GL to collect, analyse and interpret Big Data and unlock its potential for customers.

ECO Insight – Easing compliance with European CO2 monitoring scheme

DNV GL’s recently launched fleet performance management portal ECO Insight can already help shipping companies fulfil the EU requirements that will be imposed in 2018. By enabling a holistic approach to monitoring vessels, ECO Insight is a solution to the European Union’s Monitoring, Reporting, Verification scheme as well as voluntary environmental reporting schemes like Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG), Environmental Ship Index (ESI) and Clean Shipping index (CSI).
