DNV and partners launch CETO joint industry project (JIP) to develop low pressure solutions for CO2 ship transport

Equinor, Shell, TotalEnergies, Gassco and classification society DNV announced the kick-off of a new JIP to develop low-pressure solutions for the transportation of CO2 by ships. The CETO (CO2 Efficient Transport via Ocean) JIP will carry out the technology qualification of a low-pressure ship design and identify solutions to scale CO2 transportation volume, while reducing the associated risks, to support the development of opportunities in CCS. CETO is funded by the project partners and GASSNOVA through the CLIMIT programme and is expected to be completed in 2023.

Supporting remote control operations in shipping: DNV publishes pioneering new competence standard and recommended practice

Classification society DNV has introduced the shipping industry’s first competence standard for vessel remote control centre operators (RCCO). The standard is supported by a new recommended practice that offers a certification scheme for RCCOs. Together, they provide a framework for training, assessing, and certifying personnel working in remote-control centres that support or manage operations at sea.

IMO update: Marine Environment Protection Committee – MEPC 77

The 77th session of the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 77) was held remotely from 22 to 26 November 2021. Highlights include recognition of the need to strengthen the ambitions in the IMO GHG Strategy, adoption of a resolution urging for the use of distillates or other cleaner fuels or technologies to reduce emission of black carbon in or near the Arctic, and revised guidelines on exhaust gas cleaning systems.
