BL-01 Introduction to Bladed software and wind turbine technology

Introduction to Bladed software and wind turbine technology

The 5 day course is designed for new users of Bladed. It includes hands-on guided use of the software complemented by tutorials on key topics of wind turbine technology.

Wind installations are becoming more and more competitive against other forms of generation. The optimization of wind turbine systems relies heavily upon the use of advanced software packages and must be performed according to design practices and standards. DNV’s Bladed is the industry standard integrated software package for the design of onshore, offshore and floating wind turbines.

Join our experts on this remote Bladed Open Training course and learn about the load analysis process of both onshore and offshore wind turbines.

Course objective

The objective of this course is twofold: to provide participants with a solid background on significant topics ranging from the basics of wind energy conversion and control design to offshore load calculations and load analysis, and to present a series of hands-on workshops to allow participants to acquire a good command of the Bladed software. The course also includes daily assignments to help consolidate the knowledge acquired during the live session.

By the end of the course, you will be able to understand the basic principles of a wind turbine, build a complete wind turbine model, perform load calculations, understand control concepts and have an overview of the offshore environment and structures.

Course topics

  • Introduction to Bladed
  • Building a wind turbine model
  • Rotor aerodynamics
  • Structural dynamics
  • Control and safety systems
  • Modelling the environment
  • Running steady calculations
  • The role of standards and certification
  • Running simulations
  • Post-processing and reporting
  • Introduction to Bladed API
  • Offshore wind climate and wave loading
  • Offshore structures and foundations
  • Bladed / SESAM workflow
  • Seismic loading

There was a lot of detail and information to take in and work to complete outside of the live sessions which was beneficial to aid in the learning. Trainers were very friendly, helpful and made extra effort to ensure all of our questions were answered in the short time frame.
