Energy industry leaders form Founding Steering Committee to accelerate deployment of novel energy technologies
A cross-industry coalition of leading organizations have joined forces to found the Steering Committee for Bridging the Gap: Energy Innovation Deployed, and officially launch the new industry-led platform focused on accelerating the real-world deployment of innovative energy technologies.
DNV, Kantar Advisory Partners (KAP), HSBC Innovation Banking, Innovate UK, New Energy Risk, and CPI have confirmed their participation as inaugural members of the Steering Committee, bringing together expertise across finance, assurance, risk management, insurance, industry deployment, and innovation policy.
The platform has been established to address a structural challenge in the energy transition enabling technologies: while innovation is advancing rapidly, deployment is not. Many promising technologies stall between pilot and commercial implementation because navigating such a complex ecosystem calls for deeper coordination and alignment across all actors.
Bridging the Gap: Energy Innovation Deployed, is designed to build that ecosystem.
The initiative builds on the momentum of an invitation-only industry event hosted in April 2025 at DNV London Offices, where senior stakeholders from across the energy ecosystem identified the need for a coordinated, cross-sector approach to accelerating deployment.
The platform will culminate in a two-day summit in London 29th and 30th September 2026, supported by a broader programme that includes:
- The publication of Energy Technology Deployment Blueprint: a cross discipline white paper focused on defining best practice from lab to commercial scale
- A National Pilot Deployment Challenge, matching deployment-ready technologies with participating governments and partners
- A curated pipeline of late-stage startups and innovators ready for commercial pilots
- A series of cross-border roadshows with partners across the UK, Middle East, Africa, and Europe
Quotes from the Founding Steering Committee
“Deploying innovative energy technologies is complex. Real acceleration depends on early alignment, a system‑wide view of risk and bringing diverse stakeholders together. By convening innovators, investors, and industry leaders through cross‑sector platforms like Bridging the Gap, we can identify barriers, build trust, and unlock the momentum needed to scale the technologies that will shape our future.”
Sam Jones, Market Manager, DNV
“The energy transition has an execution challenge. We consistently see innovative technologies reach pilot stage and then stall because the pathway to deployment is fragmented and responsibilities are split across the system. Bridging the Gap was created to bring capital, assurance, industry and government into a single coordinated framework across regions. If we want deployment at scale, the ecosystem must stop operating in silos and start moving with collective alignment.”
Mohamad Kantar, Founder & Managing Director, KAP
"Climate and energy technologies are advancing rapidly, but moving from pilot to commercial scale remains one of the most capital-intensive and complex stages of the journey. Success requires more than funding alone, firms in this space need partners who understand long development cycles, policy-driven markets and the realities of scaling infrastructure. Bridging the Gap supports the alignment needed across capital providers, industry and government to make deployment more predictable and investable. By strengthening those pathways, we can help innovative climate tech businesses translate technical success into meaningful, system-level impact.”
Matt Jolley, Director, Climate Tech and Sustainability, HSBC Innovation Banking UK
“The energy transition is one of the most key shifts happening in the world today, which embraces everything from geopolitics to daily life. It is a global move and as such it needs a holistic approach to enable a full transformation of how to accelerate the deployment of innovative energy technologies to achieve it.”
Cinzia Porcedda, Global Innovation Lead for Climate, Innovate UK
“Deploying new technology at scale requires the orchestration of many stakeholders across technical, commercial and financial workstreams, each with their own mandates and constraints. Each of these workstreams bring their own challenges, which align in new ways when disruptive technology is introduced, challenging existing approaches and long-learned lessons. Bridging the Gap is a much-needed multi-lateral collaboration to create the necessary structures for deployment at today’s cutting edge.”
Richard Riley, Managing Director of Business Development, New Energy Risk
“The challenges between idea and commercial reality are significant. Partners with the technical expertise to scale up a technology, partners with the understanding that investments take time to deliver and policies that support these are all essential parts of the puzzle. The green energy transition isn’t a nice to have, it's an essential part of a healthy, wealthy future. CPI is excited to be part of this new initiative to solve these complex problems.”
Jay Russell, Business Development Manager, CPI
About Bridging the Gap
