DNV spinout Ofiniti raises $6.8 million to scale digital bunkering platform for global shipping
Ofiniti, the Oslo‑based digital bunkering platform, has raised $6.8 million in new growth funding, bringing total investment to $9 million. The round supports the company’s rapid international expansion as regulatory pressure and fuel‑transition complexity drive demand for verifiable digital documentation across the maritime sector.
The investment is led by Verb Ventures, with ShipsFocus co‑leading and participation from DNV Ventures, Nysnø Climate Investments, and other investors.
Ofiniti processed more than 25,000 bunker operations in 2025 and today holds an estimated 40% share of Singapore’s digital bunkering market, the world’s largest bunkering hub.
“Our customers are managing more fuel types, across more ports, under more demanding documentation requirements than ever before,” said Tue Nielsen, CEO of Ofiniti. “This funding enables us to serve more customers, in more markets, as demand for digital bunkering operations continues to grow.”
A platform born inside DNV
Ofiniti was originally developed inside DNV under the name FuelBoss, with roots going back to around 2020. It became an independent company in September 2024, when DNV spun it out following investment from ShipsFocus and a Nordic family fund. DNV Ventures remained the largest shareholder through the spin‑out and continues to hold a stake in the company. Three DNV employees left their roles to join Ofiniti as founders at the time of the spin‑out.
In March 2025, Ofiniti strengthened its Singapore position by acquiring Angsana Technology, a Singapore‑based e‑BDN provider and one of the first companies whitelisted by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) for digital bunkering. The acquisition brought together Ofiniti’s FuelBoss platform with Angsana’s BunkerFlow and DocuFlow products, along with the full Angsana team.
Singapore as a core market
Singapore is the world’s largest bunkering hub by volume, and the MPA mandated digital bunkering—requiring electronic Bunker Delivery Notes (eBDNs) for all fuel deliveries—from April 2025. All bunker suppliers in Singapore had adopted digital bunkering by August 2025. Ofiniti says it holds approximately 40% market share in Singapore’s digital bunkering market.
Regulatory momentum driving adoption
The ARA ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp‑Bruges introduced requirements for mass flow metering on bunker barges above 300 GT from the start of 2026. The EU’s Emissions Trading System now covers shipping, creating new demands for verifiable fuel data and documented custody chains, particularly for alternative and low‑carbon fuels where sustainability claims must be substantiated with real‑time records.
Verb Ventures’ founding partner Alex Chikunov noted that “the pressure on shipping to move from unreliable paper documentation to verifiable digital records is coming from multiple directions at once.”
DNV Ventures continues to back Ofiniti
Kaare Helle, venture director at DNV Ventures, highlights Ofiniti’s commercial performance: “Under Tue’s leadership, the team has proven it can win and retain key customers, and the company is already a market leader in Singapore with strong potential to expand globally.”
Nysnø Climate Investments backed the round in part because of the platform’s role in managing the fuel transition. Investment manager Maren Stangeland described Ofiniti as “key digital infrastructure for the maritime fuel transition,” noting the importance of transparency and data integrity for alternative and low‑carbon fuels.
Scale and customers
Ofiniti counts more than 50 customers across trading houses, bunker suppliers, and shipping lines. The company claims a saving of 45 minutes per delivery, translating to up to 40,000 man‑days saved annually across the industry. Ship & Bunker and Manifold Times have independently cited the 25,000 operations figure and the 40,000 man‑days saving from Ofiniti’s 2025 impact report.
The company is headquartered in Oslo and has operations in Singapore, with a growing presence in the ARA region, West Africa, and Scandinavia. Norwegian ammonia bunkering company Azane Fuel Solutions is among its recent partners, having signed on to use Ofiniti’s platform as the digital backbone for its ammonia bunkering infrastructure in Norway.
