DNV certifies BioMar under the ASC Feed Standard

BioMar, a global producer of aquafeed, has been awarded certifications by DNV under the ASC Feed Standard for its production facilities in Nersac, France, and Dueñas, Spain. The certificate for BioMar’s production facility in Nersac is the first ASC Feed Standard certification ever issued in France.

The ASC Feed Standard provides a comprehensive framework for responsible aquafeed production, setting stringent requirements in key areas including social and labour rights, health and safety, environmental stewardship, and responsible sourcing of raw materials. From October 2025, ASC-certified farms will be required to source feed from certified suppliers.

The certifications were granted following thorough independent audits conducted by DNV, verifying BioMar’s compliance with the standard’s strict requirements. BioMar can now supply ASC-conforming feed for multiple species and regions including Iberia, the Western Mediterranean, and Africa.

This certification strengthens our ability to support ASC-certified farmers at every production stage,” says Luis Garcia Romero, Managing Director at BioMar. “By offering ASC-conforming feed, we help our customers meet evolving market expectations and build value across the full value chain in the whole western mediterranean region as Nersac factory in France together with Dueñas factory in Spain are the responsible sites for supplying feed to the whole Western Mediterranean Europe and Africa.

BioMar’s production facility in Nersac is a key site for producing feed for all life stages, including hatchery diets. This milestone strengthens BioMar’s position in the market and expands its ability to supply ASC-conforming feed across species and regions.

As the first ASC certified Feed mill in France, BioMar demonstrates its strong commitments to sustainability and innovation, and sets a powerful example for others in the region to follow. Certification by an independent third party marks a major step forward for responsible aquaculture in France”, says Camille Civel, ASC Regional Manager Southern Europe, France & Italy.

The two new certifications join a growing list of ASC-certified BioMar facilities around the world, including sites in Chile, Ecuador, Denmark, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Costa Rica.

The ASC Feed Standard ensures that aquafeed production is carried out responsibly, addressing both environmental and social impacts across the entire supply chain. It promotes transparency, traceability, and continuous improvement in the aquaculture industry, ultimately contributing to more sustainable and ethical seafood production. BioMar’s strong commitment to sustainability throughout its value chain is evident, and we congratulate them on achieving ASC Feed certifications,” says Stefano Crea, Global Market and Industries Director at DNV.
