DNV acquires Amplitude Consultants to strengthen power grids expertise in Asia Pacific and accelerate the energy transition
DNV is pleased to announce the acquisition of Australia based Amplitude Consultants Pty Ltd (Amplitude), an engineering advisory that provides transmission and distribution power grid services, to enhance its integrated service portfolio in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
This strategic move reinforces DNV’s commitment to supporting customers in building resilient, efficient, and future-ready power grids, while accelerating the industry’s journey towards a sustainable and safe energy transition.
Founded over ten years ago and headquartered in Brisbane, Australia, Amplitude has successfully delivered outcomes for a broad range of consulting engagements associated with AC power transmission and distribution, high voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission, renewable energy project grid connections, high voltage land and submarine cables, power electronics and flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS).
Remi Eriksen, Group President and CEO, DNV, said, “As the energy sector undergoes profound transformations, the power grid is at the heart. To realize a decarbonized energy system, it is essential to scale, upgrade, and reinforce grid infrastructure.
“The acquisition of Amplitude deepens DNV’s grid expertise and broadens our end-to-end service capabilities, enabling greater value and impact for energy stakeholders navigating the complexities of grid transformation.”
This expanded capability significantly enhances DNV’s transmission and distribution advisory, power systems planning, and grid connection services. A key element of the acquisition is the formation of APAC’s largest HVDC advisory team with customers gaining access to exclusive technical expertise in HVDC and FACTS, backed by decades of operational experience across APAC. The strengthened offering empowers grid operators with deeper insights, broader service coverage, and regionally attuned support for grid expansion, resilience, and digitalization.
Ditlev Engel, CEO, Energy Systems, DNV said, “I am extremely pleased to welcome over fifty new Amplitude colleagues to Energy Systems and DNV. We are all looking forward to building strong relationships and start working together. The grid is the backbone of electrification and key to new power systems as part of the future clean energy system. At the same time, it is the single most important barrier to rapid electrification.
“The integration of Amplitude positions DNV as one of the APAC region’s largest international independent power grids consultancies. By combining Amplitude’s highly experienced technical experts with DNV’s global energy systems advisory, customers will benefit from robust, unbiased consultancy services tailored to address local market needs and benchmarked against global excellence.”
Brice Le Gallo, Vice President and Regional Director, APAC, Energy Systems, DNV said, “
The acquisition marks DNV’s expansion into new geographies within APAC, with Brisbane (Australia) and Wellington (New Zealand) now part of our operational footprint. With over 45 offices across the region, DNV continues to deliver regionally tailored solutions backed by global expertise. This strategic investment reflects DNV’s ambition to support the energy transition at scale and reinforces our role as a trusted partner in building secure, sustainable, and future-ready power systems.”
Les Brand, Managing Director, Amplitude Consultants said “Amplitude’s integration into the DNV Group reflects a strong alignment of shared values and a joint commitment to delivering trusted expertise in the energy sector. By combining our complementary strengths in power systems, HVDC, and FACTS, and leveraging our distinct geographic footprints, we are positioned to offer clients across the Asia Pacific region an unmatched level of service and technical depth.”
This acquisition of Amplitude is timely as DNV sees global electricity demand doubling by 2050 and will constitute 37% of global final energy use, a substantial rise from 20% in 2023. APAC is outpacing the rest of the world in growth but facing infrastructure challenges that must be addressed to fully realise its energy transition potential.
Globally high voltage direct current (HVDC) lines, which are only 1% of global transmission length today, will reach 5% by 2050.
