Responsible AI: Almawave awarded ISO/IEC 42001 certification by DNV.
Rome, July 1, 2025 - Almawave, an Italian enterprise listed on the Euronext Growth Milan market (Ticker: AIW) and a member of the Almaviva Group, a Data & Artificial Intelligence player, becomes one of the first companies worldwide to be awarded ISO/IEC 42001 certification by DNV. Few AI producers in the world have obtained this certification to date and Almawave, in this context, is among the first European multimodal producers to be certified.
It attests to the company's ability to manage the entire technology life cycle and its application of strict quality, safety, reliability and demonstrability criteria, in full compliance with regulations. Based on the principles of responsible Artificial Intelligence, this approach allows Almawave to combine technical compliance and an ethical vision.
The certification specifically covered the development, production and delivery of the proprietary AIWave Multimodal and Multilingual Cognitive Artificial Intelligence platform, which forms the core of Almawave's technology ecosystem and is the foundation for the management model certified to ISO/IEC 42001.
Valeria Sandei, Almawave CEO, underlines: "Being one of the very few AI companies in the world, and among the first in Italy, to receive this certification is a valuable strategic milestone for us. This certification - which covers the entire scope of operation of the Almawave Multiagent platform and our Velvet generative models, across a range of application use cases - confirms our role as a key player in the European Artificial Intelligence ecosystem, reiterating our ability to combine technological innovation, solid governance and attention to ethical principles. This landmark strengthens our positioning, further qualifying a wide product range that is already geared toward excellence, transparency and sustainability. We evolve in line with the challenges and opportunities presented by increasingly effective AI, always keeping in mind the guiding principles and the complex needs of the sectors in which we operate”.
Stefano Crea, Global Market and Industries Director at DNV, concludes: "Almawave's achievement of ISO/IEC 42001 certification is a significant milestone that reflects its commitment to adopting international standards for the responsible management of Artificial Intelligence. This achievement not only highlights the company's ability to integrate ethical principles, transparency and security into its processes, but also helps to strengthen stakeholder trust in an increasingly complex technological environment. ISO/IEC 42001 is set to become a global reference point for governance and accountability in AI, promoting reliable, transparent and compliant systems. Together with DNV, we believe that compliance with this standard provides a tangible competitive advantage, improving the company’s reputation and consolidating leadership in the ethical and sustainable AI landscape”.
Published in 2023, ISO/IEC 42001 is the first international standard to define the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an Artificial Intelligence Management System. The standard promotes accountable, transparent and legally-compliant use of Artificial Intelligence, helping organizations identify and mitigate risks associated with the introduction of smart technologies. Specifically, it encourages an approach that is inspired by ethical principles such as fairness, non-discrimination, respect for privacy and human well-being, and values security, reliability and user experience from the earliest stage of system design. The standard supports alignment with the EU AI Act, the GDPR and other emerging regulations, providing an authoritative reference for organizations operating in situations of high responsibility. These include healthcare, finance and the public sector,. ISO/IEC 42001 also helps to promote more structured processes, greater traceability, continuous improvement and overall quality in systems development, generating tangible benefits also at the organizational level.
Receiving this certification - the process for which began a few months after the standard came into effect - reflects the Almawave Group’s proactive vision and organizational maturity. It forms part of a structured portfolio of 12 certifications that the company has already achieved. This portfolio constitutes a set of recognitions covering areas such as healthcare, medical devices, gender equality, diversity and inclusion, IT service management, and other strategic areas, and confirms the company's ongoing commitment to quality, innovation, and compliance with ESG criteria within the constantly evolving field of AI.
