A woman’s perspective: Joanna Reichel at the heart of Poland’s energy transition
As we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, DNV proudly highlights the voices and achievements of women who are shaping the energy transition. In Poland, a country on the cusp of a renewable energy transformation, Joanna Reichel is one of the driving forces to ensure safe and reliable offshore wind projects. As a project manager for Renewables Certification at DNV, she plays a vital role in supporting the growth of offshore wind—and she’s doing it with empathy, insight, and a deep sense of purpose.
Engineering with purpose: The human side of technical excellence
For Joanna, being a woman in engineering today is a source of pride. It’s also a chance to bring fresh perspectives to complex projects. “I believe women have a natural predisposition to see wider perspectives,” she says. “Empathy also plays a key role—understanding customer needs comes naturally and adds real value to our work.”
Her journey is a testament to how diverse talent strengthens technical fields like renewable energy. She encourages young women to pursue engineering without hesitation. “There are no obstacles. You can have a family—I have three sons—an interesting job, and a rich private life, including playing volleyball and badminton. Engineering offers the chance to work on exciting projects with great personal satisfaction.”
Leading the offshore wind transition in Poland
Joanna's role at DNV places her at the heart of Poland’s offshore wind revolution. She describes it as being part of a “historical moment,” and for good reason. DNV is currently engaged in four major offshore wind certification projects in Poland. All of these are advanced in design phase and some certificates are issued. Three projects are in manufacturing stages. And one is already entering the construction phase.
These projects represent more than technical milestones—they mark Poland’s bold step toward energy independence and sustainability. Joanna is particularly proud to be responsible for integrating Polish-specific requirements into offshore wind farm certification, helping ensure that each project is not only globally compliant but locally optimized.
DNV: A team committed to Poland’s renewables future
DNV’s local team in Poland is deeply embedded in the offshore wind sector, combining global expertise with local knowledge. With professionals like Joanna Reichel at the forefront, DNV is not only supporting the development of renewable infrastructure but also cultivating a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and excellence.
As we honor women in engineering, DNV celebrates the dedication and leadership of team members like Joanna—proof that a sustainable future is built not just on cutting-edge technology, but on the diverse people who make it possible.
