Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will have a solid understanding of: 

  • The role and key responsibilities of Family Liaison Officers in crisis situations.
  • How to recognize and respond to the emotional impact of stress, grief, and loss on families and employees.
  • Communication strategies for handling sensitive conversations with next of kin and colleagues.
  • Empathy-building techniques and emotional intelligence skills for managing challenging interactions.
  • Practical approaches for providing post-crisis support to families and workplaces.

Maritime personnel who assume the role of Family Liaison Officer. 

Duration: 1 day classroom or 2 half days virtual classroom

 

The Family Liaison Officer (FLO) plays a critical role in bridging the gap between the organization and families during emotionally charged situations. This workshop is designed to build participants' understanding of the responsibilities of FLOs and equip them with the skills and confidence needed to handle challenging scenarios with professionalism and compassion.

The training addresses the psychological and emotional aspects of crises, offering practical tools and strategies for effectively supporting families and employees. It employs a participatory approach, incorporating presentations, interactive activities, case studies, and group discussions to encourage active engagement.
