Developing Leadership Skills

Develop the essential building blocks of leadership in the maritime field including a special focus on communication and listening

Objectives

This workshop will give you the opportunity to evaluate and reflect on your leadership style with the help of new insights into some key management skills. Communication and listening skills in particular will be the focus.

The skills you learn in this workshop can be used both onboard and ashore in a wide variety of situations and form the essential building blocks of leadership. For in-house training the content may be tailored for a dedicated maritime segment (cruise vessels, offshore, etc) as required by the course participants.

o Delegating and how to do it correctly

o Managing and retaining high performing employees

o What can I do to help crew improve?

  • Conduct Management

o Coaching – What is it?

o Why leading by example is critical to success

  • Delivering personal appraisals

o Why everyone deserves a good appraisal

o How to give feedback effectively

o Why you should build a relationship before doing an appraisal

o How to carry out the appraisal professionally (with reduced tension)
