SolarFarmer - Proven accuracy for bankable energy assessment

2026 Validation study across 3.6GWp operational assets in South Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America regions

This work evaluates the predictive accuracy of DNV’s SolarFarmer photovoltaic (PV) energy yield model by comparing pre-construction simulations with long-term operational data from utility-scale plants.

The purpose is to quantify how closely pre-construction predictions match measured performance when meteorological variability, system degradation, and operational plant constraints are accounted for. The validation covers 24 PV plants across 11 countries in the SEMELA region (Southern Europe, Middle East & Africa, and Latin America), representing 3.6 GWp of installed capacity and 996 months of measured operation (equivalent to 83 aggregated operational years). This geographical coverage, technological diversity, and operational history provide a robust foundation for assessing SolarFarmer’s modelling accuracy across a wide spectrum of real‑world conditions.
