Renewable hydrogen: Overcoming challenges and unlocking investment

In this webinar, our experts share the market needs and challenges of renewable hydrogen and explore factors that make a renewable hydrogen project ready for investment.

Renewable hydrogen is set to play a pivotal role in decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors across Asia Pacific, including heavy industry, refining and transport. In APAC’s key export economies, it can be processed into green ammonia to reduce emissions in fertilizer production, or used as a marine fuel to support cleaner shipping - a priority for maritime hubs within APAC. It can also be converted into green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), offering scalable solutions for decarbonising aviation and freight corridors. Additionally, it serves as a vital chemical feedstock in the production of green metals, supporting the region’s growing low-carbon manufacturing base.

To fully unlock renewable hydrogen’s potential across APAC, we must address key technical and operational challenges. Large-scale hydrogen projects face safety concerns, cost barriers, and the complexity of scaling technologies in diverse regulatory and infrastructure contexts. However, these hurdles can be overcome through collaborative R&D, rigorous testing of infrastructure, safe and proven equipment design and a strong commitment to ESG and sustainability frameworks. These efforts not only enable safe and bankable project development - they also help position APAC as a global leader in renewable hydrogen exports and innovation.
