Ceramiche Refin pioneers workplace safety with DNV’s Safe Machinery standard

Leading the way in digital safety certification for industrial machinery.

Discover how Ceramiche Refin is using digital certification to transform machinery safety and set new industry standards.

A commitment to safety through innovation
Ceramiche Refin, part of the Concorde Group, is a global leader in the production of porcelain stoneware slabs and tiles for floors and walls. With a strong focus on innovation, quality, and sustainability, the company serves the architectural and interior design sectors worldwide.

Addressing workplace safety challenges in manufacturing
Workplace safety remains a key concern in industrial manufacturing, with stringent regulations in place to ensure the safety of machinery and operators. Companies are increasingly turning to advanced digital solutions to enhance safety monitoring and regulatory compliance, minimizing risks and improving operational efficiency.

Driving a new standard for machinery safety
Ceramiche Refin sought a comprehensive and proactive approach to managing workplace safety, ensuring that its machinery complied with the highest safety standards. The company wanted a solution that would not only meet regulatory requirements but also provide continuous monitoring and data-driven insights to improve safety performance over time.

The power of digital certification
To address this challenge, Ceramiche Refin partnered with DNV to certify its machinery in accordance with the DNV-IND-S101 (Safe Machinery) standard. This pioneering project is the first of its kind in the industrial sector, integrating ComplAi’s digital solution with a dynamic AI-powered dashboard. This innovative approach allows real-time safety monitoring of machinery, ensuring ongoing compliance and improved governance.

Following a successful pilot phase in one production department, the project was expanded to cover over 100 sets of machinery at the company’s Casalgrande (RE) plant.

Transforming safety and efficiency in manufacturing
DNV’s Safe Machinery standard has provided significant benefits to Ceramiche Refin, including:

  • Real-time safety monitoring: Enhanced oversight of machinery performance through an AI-powered dashboard.
  • Beyond compliance: Implementation of a safety standard that surpasses minimum legal requirements, offering a more robust safety framework.
  • Scalability and efficiency: A digital certification process that can be extended to other industries, improving efficiency and workplace safety.

Perspectives on a pioneering initiative
By integrating advanced technology with workplace safety, Ceramiche Refin is setting new industry standards and demonstrating how digital innovation can enhance operational safety and compliance in manufacturing.
