Smarter compliance for aquaculture

With 80% of fish farmers unsure if they meet today’s stricter regulations, compliance has become a daily challenge. DNV’s AI-powered solution simplifies the process, cutting paperwork, reducing errors, and giving you the control and efficiency you need to stay ahead.

It’s time to act

The Norwegian government has set clear ambitions for the industry: a long-term goal of 5% mortality and zero escapes. While progress is being made, current mortality rates in Norwegian salmon farming remain around 15–16% nationally, and more than 80 fish escapes having been reported so far in 2025. These figures highlight the need for continued efforts and innovation, as regulators enforce and society expects improvements in line with the sector’s sustainability goals.

At the same time, authorities are strengthening their control over waste management, fish health, and environmental impact. Future growth, license approvals, and even day-to-day operations will increasingly depend on proving that farms meet these stricter requirements.

For production managers, this means the challenge is no longer only about biology or technology. It is about being able to document compliance at every stage of the

production cycle. Inspections, maintenance, and reporting must be traceable, structured, and transparent.

Companies that cannot demonstrate compliance risk more than fines: they face operational shutdowns, reputational damage, and lost opportunities for expansion.

Smarter Compliance is built to meet these challenges

Scattered paperwork and missed follow-ups are a hidden risk in aquaculture. Smarter Compliance closes that gap by giving production teams a continuous, structured checklist of all required inspections and maintenance.

Technicians keep doing their checks as before, but now every task is tracked, documented, and visible. That means less stress on site, fewer blind spots, and the confidence that nothing slips through.

For fish farmers, it means better compliance, smoother audits, and a stronger license to grow. In an industry where one missed inspection can trigger costly sanctions or lost trust, Smarter Compliance turns daily routines into protection for the whole business. Falling behind is no longer an option

The new solution will allow us to move from a complete check every five years to checking continuously, which gives us increased control and peace of mind. It will also provide a single source of truth as everyone has access to the same information, both internally and externally. Additionally, I believe it will give us a large reduction in document handling. I look forward to implementing the solution.
