Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)

Communicate verified environmental impact of products or services

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a third-party verified document that is registered and published to provide information on the environmental impact of a product or service. This document is a summarized report extracted from an in-depth Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) that complies with the ISO 14040 series and includes data according to specific standards (e.g., EN 15804).

The EPD gives transparent and comparable environmental information about a product or service and can, thus, serve as a label or declaration, making it relevant for business-to-business

communication, business-to-consumer communication, eco-design, and green public procurement.

These declarations can also be applied to assets, thus, they can be use in compliance regulations and green building schemes – such as BREEAM, LEED – where certified EPDs are based on an LCA and follow ISO 14025 type III protocols. Whereas there is no standard validity for all Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) since they are all subject to different validity periods, most are valid for 5 years.
