UPDATE: Basic Maritime Infection Prevention and Control Training now available (9th March 2021)

In response to the COVID-19 crisis DNV and Maritime Academy have developed a range of dedicated services going from Advisory services on Infection Prevention, to a specific certification scheme and a set of training courses with the main purpose of helping companies and their on-board and shore-based personnel to face this very challenging period and safely resume operations.

The emergence of COVID 19 at the end of 2019 seriously disrupted the maritime industry and brought about an urgent need for vessel owners and operators to not only mitigate infection risk in the interests of business continuity, but also restore stakeholder confidence in the industry for the long term.

As cruise operators prepare to set sail again and the other shipping segments attempt to return to a new normal, DNV can provide services that support their response to COVID 19 or any future emerging pathogen.

These services include the Certification in Infection Prevention Maritime “CIP-M”  (which demonstrates proper infection prevention, control, and mitigation of infection risk)  and  a broader training portfolio aiming to familiarize participants with best practice in the field of Infection Prevention and Control.

Our classroom and CBT (Computer Based Training) training courses are designed to build awareness and understanding in the fundamentals of infection prevention and control and help crew and company representatives to develop new competences.

The CBT has three different levels:

  • a basic training course
  • an intermediate course
  • and an advanced course

Each course targets a respective level of awareness and engagement appropriate to crew on board and shore personnel. The CBT courses are executable in 45 minute blocks, with the option to pause and return later, which gives flexibility to crew and officers with busy work schedules. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training.

In addition to the CBT training, Maritime Academy is also offering a half-day Basic Maritime Infection Prevention and Control Training designed to be delivered on-line (as a Live virtual classroom course) with the main learning objective of raising awareness about the principles and practices that drive the role of the infection prevention program and methods for continuous improvement. The course may be delivered independently from the CIP-M certification scheme and can be custom-made to match any company-specific training needs, procedures, checklists and other assets.

If you would like to join the next half-day "virtual classroom" training course on March 9th, please contact your local Maritime Academy for more details.
