Joint industry project

ProGRAM JIP 4

DNV invites the industry to collaborate on standardization and adoption of additive manufacturing through ProGRAM JIP 4

Challenge

The energy and maritime sectors face supply chain challenges, including long lead times and dependency on physical inventories. Additive Manufacturing (AM) offers local production and digital inventories as a solution. However, adoption is slow due to lack of standardized processes, specifications, and qualification frameworks, creating uncertainty for operators and OEMs.

Solution

DNV proposes to establish ProGRAM JIP 4, a joint industry project to continue the standardization and adoption of AM by:

  • Developing standardized specifications for parts, materials, and processes
  • Introducing provisions for new AM technologies (e.g., cold spray, DED, PBF)
  • Creating guidelines for digital inventories and repair/modification practices
  • Demonstrating AM through physical and digital part production.

The project will build on DNV-ST-B203 and DNV-RP-B205, aiming to reduce barriers and enable compliant AM implementation.

Benefits and value

  • Improved supply chain resilience and reduced lead times
  • Cost reduction through standardized AM processes
  • Increased confidence in AM quality and compliance
  • Access to guidelines, specifications, and best practices
  • Contribution to updates of DNV standards and recommended practices.
