DNV wins three honours at the prestigious Gas Industry Awards 2023
DNV recognized by the Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers (IGEM) and Energy & Utilities Alliance (EUA) at the Gas Industry Awards 2023 ceremony in London.
LONDON, UK, 20 July 2023 - DNV, the independent energy expert and assurance provider, has won three honours at the Gas Industry Awards 2023. Jointly organized by the Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers (IGEM) and Energy & Utilities Alliance (EUA), the Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of individuals and businesses working across the gas industry. The ten categories saw nominations from well-known companies including Cadent, SGN, National Grid Electricity Transmission, Northern Gas Networks, and National Grid ESO. The Project of the Year prize was awarded to the FutureGrid project. Led by National Gas Transmission PLC and in partnership with DNV, The Health & Safety Executive, Fluxys, Durham University, and The University of Edinburgh, the project is a first step towards a full-scale conversion of the existing national transmission system to transport hydrogen. DNV has been acting as the partner responsible for the design, construction, operation, and testing of this asset at its Spadeadam Testing & Research facility in Cumbria, UK.
Distinguished individuals who have contributed to the gas industry and institutions were also recognized and celebrated during the ceremony. During the President’s Address, Dr Gary Tomlin was presented with an Honorary Fellowship for his leadership, inspiration, work, and commitment to the gas industry. This is in appreciation of his explosion investigation work including fatal and non-fatal incidents over the last 30 years. Andrew Ramage, who recently retired from DNV, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award which acknowledged his long and varied career, having celebrated 45 years within the gas industry last October. He built extensive experience in gas transmission and the design, operation, maintenance, and integrity management of UK pipelines.
Tom Neal, FutureGrid Manager, National Gas Transmission PLC, said: “FutureGrid is key to demonstrating that the National Transmission System can transport hydrogen. Working with DNV, we’ve constructed the offline hydrogen test facility out of decommissioned assets and are excited to move to the next phase and begin hydrogen testing on this pioneering project.”
Hari Vamadevan, Executive Vice President, and Regional Director UK & Ireland of Energy Systems at DNV, said: “We are thrilled that DNV has been recognized at the 2023 Gas Industry Awards with three honours. DNV has a rich history in ensuring the safe use of natural gas as an energy vector. We are now driving forward the energy transition by de-risking hydrogen. Seen by many as a clean, and robust replacement for natural gas, hydrogen will be used to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors. These awards are a direct result of the dedication and hard work of many people and I’d like to thank our team and our customers who are pushing the technological boundaries of hydrogen and continuing to ensure the safe use of natural gas.”
