DNV acquires ANB Systems to enhance its digital energy management capabilities and accelerate the energy transition
DNV has announced the acquisition of Houston-based ANB Systems, a prominent software as a service (SaaS) company providing energy program services to utility and regulatory body customers. This strategic move is part of DNV's ongoing commitment to support customers in leading and accelerating the energy transition. Energy efficiency and energy management play a critical role in the transition – using less energy is one of the easiest and often the cheapest way to reduce carbon emissions. By integrating ANB's well established business process management software with DNV's expertise, DNV aims to facilitate its customers’ journey towards decarbonized, safe, and efficient energy systems.
Founded in 1997, ANB Systems has gained extensive expertise in developing digital solutions that simplify, automate, and standardize processes for energy efficiency, electric vehicles, distributed generation, interconnection, and line & pole management. ANB's platform, powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, offers advanced capabilities that improve user experience, ensure data robustness, and provide deep insights across utility portfolios. With AI integration, ANB's software enables efficient anomaly detection, streamlined workflows, and enhanced customer service interactions.
This acquisition will enable DNV to leverage ANB's ready and configurable solutions, allowing utility and government customers to swiftly deploy and manage multiple energy schemes – ultimately expediting time-to-market and enhancing integration with existing portfolios.
Remi Eriksen, Group President and CEO of DNV said "Energy efficiency is one of the defining features of the energy transition and the acquisition of ANB, with its strong focus on quality software solutions, will strengthen and expand our offerings in energy management and related services particularly in North America. On behalf of DNV and our customers, I look forward to welcoming ANB’s 223 experts into the company."
Ditlev Engel, CEO, Energy Systems at DNV said “I am extremely pleased to welcome ANB to the DNV family. The collaboration between DNV and ANB will bring together two world-class teams, combining insights and experience to deliver comprehensive solutions to customers. ANB Systems was founded with a clear mission - to partner with their customers to create best-in-class technology solutions that empower energy companies to provide best-in-class service including artificial intelligence. The company has grown and gained remarkable expertise in developing digital solutions for clean energy programs. Together, DNV and ANB Systems are committed to accelerating the transition towards decarbonized, safe, and smart energy systems, enabling a sustainable future for all.”
Excited about what the acquisition means for ANB customers, S. Balakrishnan CEO, ANB Systems said “ANB has grown steadily across its software products, its services, and its customers, through its configurable and scalable low-code proprietary software platforms. The acquisition by DNV will provide us with the resources for product development and operations, as well as give us global market reach. Most importantly, this will give us the resources to ensure we continue providing excellent customer implementation and support via our successful ReSULTS framework.”
Over the years, DNV has forged a long-standing partnership with ANB and the two companies have collaborated on numerous engagements, leading to a thorough assessment of the market for clean energy program software platforms.
“Just over a year ago the Inflation Reduction Act was introduced in the United States, bringing major opportunities to accelerate the energy transition on both the supply and demand side. I believe the timing to acquire ANB is perfect, as we seek to capitalize on the opportunities ahead and support our clients in achieving their sustainability goals. DNV’s Energy Transition Outlook (ETO) report, highlights that efficiency and electrification will be a major driver to cutting carbon emissions over the next two decades. The successful implementation of a wide range of energy programs in North America are crucial to this effort," explained Richard S. Barnes, Executive Vice President and regional director, Energy Systems North America at DNV.
DNV's deep and broad expertise in implementing, advising, and supporting clients in various sectors of the energy transition, combined with ANB's innovative software, will empower customers to seize the opportunities of the evolving energy landscape.
