Enhancing safety with explosion modelling compliant with industry standards
The new Dust explosions add-on available in Phast and Safeti (version 9.1) uses models based on NFPA 68 Standard on explosion protection by deflagration venting (2023) and EN 14491 Standard on dust explosion venting protective system (2012), helping engineers design venting systems that meet stringent regulatory standards. This new explosion model will simulate the consequences of dust explosions, such as overpressure effects and potential damage, and help determine protective measures for personnel and infrastructure within facilities for organizations across industries such as agriculture, food processing, woodworking, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, metal processing, mining and waste management.
Venting optimization and impact assessments
The add-on enables calculation of optimal vent area for industrial processes based on expected overpressure, and offers detailed tables of vented areas and reduced pressures. This model allows users to fine-tune venting systems for specific processes, enhancing safety and efficiency.
Additionally, the Phast and Safeti Dust explosions add-on delivers valuable insights into the external impacts of dust explosions, including fireball effects and overpressure distributions. It provides data on peak overpressure and affected regions, and the distribution of external overpressures, enabling thorough risk assessments and the implementation of effective safety measures.
The Dust explosions add-on for Safeti allows users to incorporate the likelihood of such explosion events into the overall risk profile for a facility, proving valuable when performing quantitative risk assessments (QRAs) for more comprehensive analysis.
Suitable for a range of industries and uses
The add-on is designed for use in various industrial environments where dust hazards are present. It provides comprehensive modelling of dust explosions, making it an essential tool for managing these consequences and risks.
Our materials database includes over 50 dusts to choose from, based on the properties provided in NFPA 68 (2023), encompassing agricultural products, carbonaceous dusts, chemical dusts, metal dusts and plastic dusts. Note that specific considerations for equipment such as silos and dust collectors will be considered in future versions.
