Training course: Generation and Transmission Planning

International best practices in generation and transmission system expansion planning techniques and methodologies

To ensure that your integrated power networks are able to sustainably and cost effectively meet national and regional demands for power, DNV has developed this training course to introduce participants to international best practices in generation and transmission planning.

The training is based on the key aspects of integrated power system planning:
■ policy and regulatory aspects
■ technical aspects
■ economic and financial aspects
■ environmental and social aspects

Course summary

The three-day course will start with an introduction to electricity markets and organisation. It will then study demand forecasting and provide an introduction to generation planning. The next two days will address generation planning in more detail, transmission planning, investment appraisal, economic and financial analysis and social and environmental aspects. Various tools will be introduced along with illustrative examples. During the interactive course, participants will be encouraged to actively participate in discussions and short exercises.

Your benefits

This course will give you an in-depth understanding of various aspects of the electricity industry. You will hear state-of-the-art views and be given examples and tools regarding these aspects. You will learn how to forecast demand and simulate generation dispatch and how to plan generation and transmission expansion. Furthermore you will gain understanding of the impact of variable renewable energy on security of supply and CO2 abatement. cle.
