A structured approach for asset management

DNV has developed a structured method that provides a basis for rational risk assessment. This training course will help you to make well-founded decisions and deal with uncertainties in the decision-making process

Course summary

The general course is a two-day course that addresses subjects from decision theory that can be used in the field of asset management, such as decisions relating to new build, replacement and maintenance investments.

For whom?

This course is intended for anyone involved in the planning, design and maintenance of power and/or gas networks. The course is given at Bachelor level and basic knowledge of the technical aspects of electrical and/or gas infrastructures is recommended.

Course topics

The following topics will be addressed:

  • Environment: organisation, asset management process, regulatory constraints
  • Technique: alternatives, technical constraints
  • Uncertainty: failure probability, scenarios, assumptions, statistics, reliability and various analysis
  • Economy: net present value, life cycle costing, cost matrix
  • Decision theory: process, problem definition, criteria, functions, preconditions, portfolio management, optimisation
Theory is interspersed with practical examples and discussions with participants.

Practical information

The general course can be supplemented with master modules to provide in-depth knowledge about specific subjects such as statistics, data analysis, sensitivity analysis, decision and risk trees, scenario analysis and process guidance.

This training course is also applicable to other networks, such as water and telecom networks. The training course can be given in English or Dutch. Click here for more information.
