Course summary
DNV Energy Academy invites you to attend our online training course on DNP3. The DNP3 communication protocol is designed for telecontrol purposes. This course has been developed to offer telecommunication professionals the opportunity to obtain up-to-date information about DNP3 and hands-on experience analysing the communication. Depending on participants’ wishes, the course can look at the broader functional aspects or focus on the details, such as technical issues and the bits and bytes of the protocol. This course, which is taught by our leading experts, will provide participants with the knowledge they need regarding the capabilities, benefits and pitfalls of DNP3 communication, as well as recent developments in this field.
For whom?
This course is intended for developers, consultants and telecom engineers at manufacturing companies and end-user utilities, who need up-to-date knowledge about the DNP3 communication standard.
Course information
The course starts with an introduction to the background of open communication protocols in general and DNP3 in particular. The first part focuses on the functionality and features of DNP3: the object types, the functions and the protocol layers. Exercises will enable the participants to immediately put what they have learned into practice. The second part goes into the details of the communication protocols: the bits and bytes of the messages. Participants will complete several exercises to gain experience in encoding and decoding DNP3 messages and detecting communication problems. Other topics covered in the second part of the course include the DNP3 security specifications (based on IEC 62351) and conformance testing.
As a practical exercise, participants will set up DNP3 links and analyse the message flow. During this online course, participants are also encouraged to ask questions and share their own experiences. Timeline of this online course is 4 days of 4 hours training each from 13:00 - 17:00 hours CET.
