This recommended practice (RP) provides a systematic approach for linking pipeline wall thickness design to pressure protection characteristics for new and existing pipeline systems and describes how to design overpressure protection barriers to comply with the acceptance criteria. It defines acceptance criteria for overpressure in compliance with DNV-ST-F101 for the frequency dependent pressure containment (FDPC) limit state.
Further, it provides guidance on:
- how to demonstrate the pipeline safety level
- the requirements for and design of fortified pipeline sections
- the weak link concept.
