DNV’s Ditlev Engel is recognized as one of the Top 20 Leaders of the Offshore Wind Industry in the Baltic Sea

Award recognizes leaders who have had the biggest impact on offshore wind development in the Baltic Sea region in the past year

ARNHEM, The Netherlands, 8 April 2022 - DNV, the independent energy expert and assurance provider, is pleased to announce that Ditlev Engel, CEO of DNV’s Energy Systems Business Area has been recognized as one of the top 20 offshore wind industry leaders in the Baltic Sea at the first Baltic Offshore Wind Awards 2021 organised by Baltic.eu. Announced during the WindEurope 2022 conference and exhibition in Bilbao, Spain, Ditlev was presented with the award for inspiring valuable discussions and implementing ambitious strategies of decarbonization and electrification of Europe.

The 20 award nominees were selected by the Baltic.eu editorial board following a nomination process by their readers. The award will be given annually in recognition of efforts to enable and support the growth and innovation in the Offshore Wind Industry.

Ditlev Engel, CEO, Energy Systems at DNV said “It is always pleasing to see one’s work recognised by the industry and this is really appreciated.  I have been active in the wind industry now for many years and I am of course extremely optimistic about the future. I expect huge growth in renewables, largely thanks to falling development costs for projects such as offshore wind. I expect that these low and decreasing renewable energy production costs will boost a massive scaling of green energy in the coming years and decades, including around the Baltic Sea, contributing to the shift from fossil fuels as we seek to reach the 1.5°C Paris agreement.”

DNV has over 30 years’ experience working in the offshore wind industry and is leading the development of requirements and standards. Over half of pilot floating offshore wind farms for example are already designed following DNV standards.

Over his 30-year career as an international leader in the global energy industry, Ditlev has been a driving force behind many global green investment initiatives, pushing the energy transition to the next level – including as Denmark’s Special Envoy for Climate and Energy in the lead up to UN Climate Summit in September 2019 in New York.

Ditlev’s award follows other recent honours for DNV experts in the wind industry. Stefanie Bourne, Business Director – Renewables & Offshore Wind in the UK & Ireland, was recognized in A Word About Wind’s Top 100 European Power List and Ciara Lucas, Team Lead Energy Storage UK has been nominated in the ‘rising star’ category in the upcoming Wind Investment awards 2022.
