The accomplishment earned Brunswick Surgery Center the prestigious designation of an Orthopedic Center of Excellence with specialty certifications in Advanced Hip & Knee Replacement, Advanced Spine, Advanced Shoulder, and Advanced Foot & Ankle Surgery.
Demand for specialized orthopedic care is expected to grow rapidly over the coming years due to the aging US population.
A study by the Administration for Community Living, an operating division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, revealed that people aged 65 and above accounted for 17% of the population in the year 2020, which is projected to rise to 22% by 2040.
Already, the US sees a steep increase in orthopedic surgeries taking place in ambulatory surgery centers, according to a study published in the Annals of Medicine and Surgery. From 2016 to 2019 all surgical specialties experienced an overall increase in case volume, with the percentage increase being greater for orthopedic ambulatory surgery centers (76.9%) than for all ambulatory surgery centers combined (64.5%).
