Financing the energy transition:

The make-or-break decade for hydrogen

Insights for the finance community

Join us for a 1-hour event on 25 September in Copenhagen or via live stream.

Date:  25 September 2025
Time: 09:00 - 10:00
Place: Kosmopol, Fiolstræde 44, 2nd floor, 1171 Copenhagen or via livestream

As part of our Financing the energy transition series, this upcoming event will explore the current state of the hydrogen sector and its potential to scale over the next decade.

Hosted in Copenhagen and available via live stream, the session offers a candid fireside chat with experts who bring diverse perspectives and practical experiences from across the hydrogen value chain.

Our fireside chat will consist of the following people:

  • Philip Christiani, Partner, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners
  • Marco Wedemeier, Managing Director, Project & Renewable Energy Finance, Danske Bank
  • Corin Taylor, Segment Leader, Hydrogen and Ammonia, Northern Europe, DNV
  • Martijn Maandag, Director Due Diligence and Key Account Manager, DNV
  • Additional panelist to be announced

DNV’s latest Energy Transition Outlook forecasts that hydrogen will meet just 4% of global energy demand in 2050, a decrease from last year’s forecast of 5%. Despite ambitious national and EU-level strategies aimed at supporting hydrogen uptake, momentum in the sector is slowing. Projects face rising costs, implementation delays, and weak demand, with some prominent initiatives already abandoned.

Yet hydrogen remains a crucial part of the net-zero equation, and the next decade will be pivotal, a make-or-break period for hydrogen and green fuels. The continued growth of wind and solar power, declining electrolysis costs, and stronger carbon pricing or demand mandates in hard-to-abate sectors could still position hydrogen and its derivatives as essential components of the future energy mix.

Join us for a candid fireside chat where industry experts will share unfiltered insights into the current realities, the challenges ahead, and hydrogen’s potential in the future energy landscape.
