On 18 April 2023, the European Parliament approved the adoption of the 'New Machinery Regulation' that will repeal the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC on 20 January 2027.

This new regulation, which defines the essential safety requirements and certification procedures with which machine manufacturers must comply in order to market their products in the European Community and which machine users must take into account, aims to better cover risks arising from new emerging technologies: artificial intelligence, internet of things, robotics. It also aims to clarify the scope, definitions and improve the requirements for high-risk machines.
