DNV GL launches JIP to improve risk assessment of offshore helideck turbulence through the use of CFD

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is widely used in high-level analyses of offshore helideck turbulence levels to assess possible flight restrictions. However, the current international regulations’ imposed criteria lead to results that might not reflect operational experience, thus they might also conservatively restrict helicopter operations. DNV GL is launching a joint industry project (JIP) to bridge the gap between advised and actual hazardous flight conditions, ensuring cost-effective designs and helicopter operations without compromising safety.

Surveys without scaffolds – DNV GL conducts drone inspection of ship tanks

DNV GL has recently completed several tests using drones to support the hull survey of two vessels. Conducted by the classification team based in Gdansk, Poland, the tests took place at the Remontowa shipyard. Using drones to visually check the condition of remote structural components has the potential to significantly reduce survey times and staging costs, while at the same time improving safety for the surveyors.

DNV GL launches two JIPs for improved efficiency and precision of CFD in offshore engineering

The oil & gas industry is under pressure to develop cost effective designs without compromising safety. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software is used for this purpose, but improvements are needed to help solve complex safety and design challenges in oil and gas offshore engineering. DNV GL is launching two CFD joint industry projects (JIP) to meet the industry’s need for more cost efficient and precise decision support. Both JIPs are still welcoming new participants.

DNV GL and Hempel to cooperate for measurable fleet performance improvement

To reap the benefits of any efficiency improvements, reliable measurement and analytics are essential, both to set baselines and to calculate returns. Today, at Marintec China trade fair, Hempel and DNV GL signed a cooperation agreement to work together to bring customers clear, comprehensible and verifiable analytics to track and assess hull and propeller performance, for reduced fuel costs and a smaller environmental impact.
