Project BRAMOND: Brazil Manufacturing On Demand
Joint Industry Project
A joint industry project to adopt Additive Manufacturing (AM) in Brazil to empower maritime and offshore stakeholders to reduce their costs and improve customer experience.
Background
For vessels or offshore platforms that are decades old, delivery and production is not always as straightforward as they require spare parts that are either no longer manufactured or require a long lead time. Additive Manufacturing (AM), or 3D printing, makes its way into the maritime and offshore sector redefining the spare parts supply chain, the way spare parts are made with its ability to manufacture rapidly and flexible. Maritime and offshore assets now have the option to print their needed spare parts on-demand using the most appropriate material.
Objective
AM has successfully been adopted in many countries. However, it needs to be implemented in Brazil. We are therefore establishing a strong ecosystem of OEMs, end users, class and manufacturing partners, to enable the AM ecosystem in Brazil.
Project phases and planning
Phase 1:
A commercial and technical feasibility study of establishing a local manufacturing center in Brazil with in-house and/or affiliated partners.
Phase 2:
Setup and operationalize a local manufacturing center with in-house and/or affiliated partners for the maritime and offshore industry in Brazil, including training of local on-site engineers.
Planning:
We aim to commence Phase 1 of the project in Q4 2021. The duration of Phase 1 is 9 -12 months. Sub projects can have delayed starting date and shortened duration.
Project partners
This joint industry project is a partnership between DNV, Thyssenkrupp and Wilhelmsen, leading this initiative together.
