To better understand this growing risk, DNV Cyber set out to answer a fundamental question: How resilient is Denmark in the face of escalating cyber threats?

The report How Cyber Resilient is Denmark? examines the threats facing Denmark’s critical infrastructure, assesses national preparedness to manage cyber risk, and presents six recommendations for how businesses and government can strengthen cyber resilience.
The research is based on surveys of 200 critical infrastructure executives and 500 members of the Danish public, complemented by interviews with Danish Industry (Dansk Industri), Ørsted, the Danish Health Data Authority (Sundhedsdatastyrelsen), AL Sydbank A/S, Green Power Denmark, and DNV Cyber.
While cyberattacks in Denmark are increasing, the research reveals that a lack of clarity around who owns cybersecurity responsibility puts the country at risk:
- Half (50%) executives working in critical infrastructure industries say national cyber resilience is viewed internally as a challenge for other people with majority pointing towards the government.
- Only 35% of Danish citizens believe they have a personal responsibility to prevent cyberattacks from disrupting critical infrastructure, and 43% believe individual citizens cannot do much to reduce the risk of a successful attack.
“The government, critical infrastructure providers, and private citizens all have a role to play in defending society against cyberattacks…Digital resilience depends on how well companies, the public, and authorities understand and fulfil their roles in an interconnected system.”
