The concept 

Today our communities depend on critical services supplying reliable power, water, transport amongst other essentials. That’s why once a year, our team of industrial cyber security experts dedicate themselves to bringing together industry leaders across a wide range of sectors – including power, oil and gas, manufacturing, transport, maritime, water and chemical sectors - to learn and get involved in discussions focussed on protecting our critical infrastructure. 

We have built this experience to allow participants to learn and get involved in discussions focussed on cyber risk mitigation for critical Operational Technology (OT), SCADA and Industrial IoT assets. Our aim is to put industrial cyber security challenges in the spotlight and allow our community to share and learn with each other in an informative and thought-provoking gathering. 

Why “The NightWatch”? 

For those unfamiliar with one of the most famous relics of the Dutch Golden Age, Rembrandt’s ‘The Night Watch’ or ‘De Nachtwacht’ in Dutch, depicts the Militia Company of District II under the Command of Captain Frans Banninck Cocq. This group of civilian soldiers protected Amsterdam from physical attack, with the colossal-sized artwork capturing the spirit of a community coming together for the protection of their society. 

The annual event hosted by DNV Cyber has an ideology that is no different. Whilst there is a substantial gap in time between the 1700’s and the year we live in today, the central theme of a community coming together for the betterment and protection of what is considered critical very much lives on. 

Today our communities depend on critical services supplying reliable power, water, transport amongst other essentials. In our eyes, the modern NightWatch may as well consist of those responsible for the safe and secure operations of our critical infrastructure. 

The format 

OT security experts gather over one day to join a range of 45 minute sessions, followed by a Q&A for discussion. The sessions bring together views from different sectors and roles into a spirited and interactive debate.
