Parc Cynog solar farm
5.5 GWh per year from one field at Castle Lloyd Farm in Pendine, Wales
Customer
NUON-Vattenfall
Background
Once fully operational Parc Cynog Solar Farm is expected to produce 5.5 GWh/year, sufficient electricity to power up to 1441 homes per annum during its lifespan of 30 years. The solar farm is situated in one field at Castle Lloyd Farm which already contains one of the wind turbines of the existing Parc Cynog Wind Farm and the solar farm shares the grid connection already utilised by the wind farm. Combining both wind and solar on one grid connection is a first for Vattenfall.
DNV services
DNV was appointed to be the owner’s engineer, assisting NUON-Vattenfall throughout the engineer, procure, construct (EPC) tender preparation, bid evaluation, contracting, design review, construction monitoring, operation monitoring and the final acceptance of 4.92 MW solar PV plant. DNV provided technical and management advisory services to help the customer in a few unique scenarios, namely:
- provide technical tender specifications and support in bidder selection under large time pressure
- the issue of curtailment, as the solar park is interconnected with a co-located wind farm
- punch list work and construction monitoring alongside the EPC contractor.
Benefits
DNV leveraged its international experience with developing PV power plants in order to facilitate a fast and efficient procurement process and project development process for the customer, who had limited experience to realise the ambitious goals with the given terms.
