Gas awareness course

A half-day introductory course at DNV's Spadeadam Research & Development Facility, Cumbria, UK to present the hazards associated with the gas industry and the fundamentals of process safety

Course objective and scope

This training course gives attendees a practical introduction to gas industry hazards and the fundamentals of process safety. Delivered at DNV’s Spadeadam Research & Development Facililty, the course combines expert-led seminar sessions with live, large-scale demonstrations that show how gas releases, fires, explosions, and dispersion events can develop in real-world conditions.

Why attend?

Attendees will gain a stronger understanding of gas hazards, the importance of safe working practices, and the role of effective process safety management. By seeing credible incident scenarios demonstrated live, participants leave with a more memorable and practical appreciation of risk than classroom training alone can provide.

The course helps organizations build safety awareness, support workforce development, and reinforce the behaviours needed to prevent major accident hazards.

Who should attend?

This course is designed for new starters and anyone working in the gas industry who has not previously experienced live gas hazard demonstrations. It is suitable for engineers, technicians, operators, managers, contractors, and HSEQ professionals who need a basic understanding of gas risks and safe working practices.

Attendees will gain an understanding of the key hazards associated with gas, the importance of working safely, and the role of process safety in preventing incidents. Through live demonstrations, participants will see real-world examples of gas hazards and leave with a stronger awareness of the risks and controls needed to keep people, assets, and the environment safe.
