Course objective and scope

This unique one-day course builds a clear understanding of the risks inherent in CCUS operations. Through expert classroom sessions and experiential learning with full-scale hazard demonstrations, combining the theory with a practical appreciation of the consequences, you will gain a clear, indepth appreciation of CCUS operations, and the properties and the hazards associated with CO2.

Course content

During the day, the course attendees will:

  • Experience full-scale hazard demonstrations which expose attendees to the real-world consequences of CO2 releases including:
    • Propagation and accumulation of CO2 venting
    • High-pressure CO2 jet release and impingement
    • Dense gas dispersion
  • Witness live hands-on demonstrations showcasing the properties of solid CO2 up close
  • Attend a tour of ongoing world-leading CCUS research projects including Skylark and FutureGrid CO2
  • Participate in classroom sessions delivered by DNV experts covering the properties, hazards, case studies, technical and operational considerations, and ongoing research in CCUS.

Due to the secure location of the Spadeadam Research & Development Facility, all visitors must have photographic ID when arriving on-site. Non-British nationals must send their passport details 4 weeks prior to the event.
