There are several open data sources available containing well information. Rules and regulations are restricting the potential for peforming analysis of this data. In Norway, such data is typically released 2-20 years after acquisition. Digitalization is about willingness to share data. Key players in the oil and gas industry (operators, authorities, service and specialist companies) hold a vast amount of data for wells. By offering Veracity for holding and sharing of cleaned aggregated datasets across operators, service companies etc. with focus on data quality and integrity, analysis can be made more accurate for example for improved reservoir recovery, remaining hydrocarbon potential, more efficient drilling programs, plugging and abandonment operations.
DNV GL has for some time investigated the opportunity to cooperate with AGR in data collection. AGR holds a collection of open-source data from more than 6000 North Sea wells and private data from 500-1000 wells. AGR finds that operators and service companies are still withholding a lot of well data. This data would bring the knowledge and potential of more efficient ways of working with well data to a higher level. AGR has already performed a gap analysis of the data stream and have competence in the process of data reporting. Combining DNV GL’s trusted independence with AGR’s knowledge and recognition in the market can lead to the aggregation of better/more relevant data that can be utilized for analysis.
AGR is very positive to partner with DNV GL in this joint industry project (JIP) effort and as a door opener to assign other partners, AGR would like to investigate the opportunity to place data from more than 6000 wells onto DNV GL’s Veracity platform.
The objective of this JIP is to get operators, service companies , authorities to share the amount of data available and then prepare the data for further analysis.
