ILI tool performance validation loop

DNV is exploring a joint industry project (JIP) to develop an independent inline inspection (ILI) tool performance validation loop for natural gas, hydrogen and future gas pipeline applications. The facility would enable operators and vendors to test ILI technologies under realistic pipeline conditions with known defects, helping improve confidence in inspection results and support safer asset life extension and energy transition projects. 

Challenge

Pipeline operators need greater confidence in ILI tool performance to reduce uncertainty, optimize integrity management, extend asset life and support hydrogen conversion projects. 

Solution

A DNV-operated gas test loop at DNV's Spadeadam Research & Development Facility where operators and vendors can independently validate ILI technologies against predefined defects under controlled, realistic operating conditions.
