Survey Simulator is an innovative solution from DNV, developed to train shipboard personnel in carrying out visual inspections in a more comprehensive, efficient and safe manner. Using a simulator makes practical training possible without leaving the classroom.

Survey Simulator consists of highly realistic 3D models of four ship types, permitting virtual survey simulations. Every vessel in Survey Simulator is a reflection of a real ship or structure. Our specialists have included vessel details going from the large steel hull plates down to the smallest screw.
Thousands of deficiencies have been placed on virtual vessels for training purposes. The deficiencies are both safety-related and of a technical nature and all are based on DNV's global inspection experience from hundreds of real-life inspections carried out every year.
For each vessel type you can go on board virtually and inspect a variety of survey areas (tanks, holds, spaces, etc) typical for that ship. You also have the option to use typical surveyor tools such as a flashlight, camera and spray paint.
This course focuses on:
- Background to statutory regulations
- Scope of SOLAS, Load Line and MARPOL conventions – practice with Survey Simulator
- Training in detection of common deficiencies related to SOLAS, Load Line and MARPOL in different areas onboard and for different ship types – practical inspections with Survey Simulator
- Consequences of deficiencies related to statutory requirements
- Rectification of deficiencies and handling of Conditions of Administration
