At the Crossroads of Change: The Human Element at the Core of the Shipping Sector

This Masterclass aims to expand the capacity of policymakers, shipping leaders, managers, and seafarers by providing a comprehensive understanding of the human element in the rapidly evolving maritime sector.

Objectives

The program seeks to:

  • Bridge the gap between the regulatory framework and its implementation.
  • Prepare maritime professionals for the challenges of digitalization, automation, and AI-enabled operations.
  • Increase awareness and knowledge of evolving security risks.
  • Strengthen safety culture and foster adaptability in the context of new fuels and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
  • Address the areas of fatigue, wellness and resilience as critical dimensions of human performance and wellbeing. 
  • Enhance soft skills, including leadership, teamwork, intercultural communication and conflict resolution essential for a future-proof maritime workforce.

None but a shipping background is recommended.

Duration: 5 day classroom training taking place in Greece

 

The aim of this five-day Masterclass is to expand the capacity of policymakers, shipping leaders, managers, and seafarers by providing a comprehensive understanding of the human element in the rapidly evolving maritime sector. Particular emphasis will be placed on the regulatory framework, safety, security, energy efficiency & sustainability, artificial intelligence (AI), and soft skills. On the basis of a balanced combination of high-level teaching and immersive hands-on training, participants will explore how the human element shapes compliance, innovation, and resilience across the shipping industry.


The Masterclass is a joint project of DNV and the WMU delivered in cooperation with NTUA / School of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and with the kind contribution of HELMEPA.
