HVDC Converter Technologies training course (online)

HVDC training course

Modular training course providing knowledge and understanding of High Voltage Direct Current technology.

Most electrical power transmission involves a 3-phase HVAC system. The reasons for choosing HVDC rather than HVAC in a specific case are very complex. Through this modular four-day online HVDC training course, DNV responds to the need for more knowledge and understanding regarding this subject.

The first part starts with an introduction to why HVDC is increasingly applied in power systems. HVDC LCC technology and its main applications are explained, including the controls and associated DC and AC equipment. In the second part, the substation part is followed by VSC technology with a control system module for VSC and associated AC and equipment specification, including commissioning and failure investigations. The equipment technology session leads on to the case study workshop focusing on a practical project example.  Coming immediately after our HVDC converter training, this technologies course completes the overview HVDC systems.

Result:
After this course participants have gained in-depth understanding of the various building blocks, types of HVDC technologies, their typical applications and the methods that can be used to ensure the quality of your HVDC projects. You will understand how HVDC converter stations are specified and designed and which developments can be expected in the future.
