Several projects look for cost-effective corrosion resistant solutions for pipelines. However, almost every project must qualify use of a CRA (Corrosion Resistant Alloy) due to specified restrictions in ISO 15156.
This represents both cost and schedule risk to the projects since results of previous qualifications are kept confidential amongst the operators and contractors. Furthermore, the usage limits for CRAs are considered to be conservative.
Solution
- Retrieve, select and organize data from previous qualifications, as support to establish safe operational window during FEED (Front End Engineering and Design)
- Design and execute a materials test program in accordance with ISO 15156 to expand safe envelop
- Establish recommendations for materials selection and establishing test program.
Benefits
The results will be used to describe and document safe and cost-effective operational window for CRAs with regard to corrosion, during FEED. Results can also be used to update ISO 15156 and relevant DNV GL guidelines.
