The new ISO 14001 is published

ISO 14001:2015 was published on September 15 after being approved by the vast majority of the member countries.

The standard is by far the most prominent and recognized standard for environmental management, used by several hundred thousand organizations worldwide.

Starting in 2011 it has been a long-lasting and extensive process to come to the final result. The revised standard is the culmination of the work done by around 120 experts across 80 countries. These are mainly delegates representing several national member countries, but also some other stakeholder groups. DNV GL has actively contributed to the process from the beginning, also with representation in the ISO Working Group.

“We are clearly in favor of the changes and we are pleased with the final outcome of the standard,” says Tor Gunnar Tollefsen, Global Manager for Management System Services in DNV GL - Business Assurance. “I am convinced that users will appreciate most of the key changes, including life-cycle thinking, focus on leadership, better strategic fit, and focus on objectives and performance management,” concluded Mr. Tollefsen.

We are ready to support you

DNV GL has for a long time prepared for the new standard.

In the past months we have successfully:

  • Trained our employees
  • Developed various material, including training courses, interpretation guidelines etc.
  • Prepared for and received accreditation audits to be able to provide accredited certification to the new ISO 9001 and 14001.

Following the positive outcome of recent accreditation audits for the new standards from our main  Accreditation Bodies RvA (The Netherlands) and UKAS (UK) we expect to receive accreditation within 1-2 months. After receiving the accreditation we will be allowed to issue accredited certificates for the new standards. In order to prepare our customers for the transition we can support you e.g. by providing training, gap analysis and certification audits.
