Global webinar puts spotlight on environmental regulations

In DNV GL's latest global webinar, environmental experts looked at the range of ongoing environmental regulations working to improve the sustainability of the shipping industry.

DNV GL's webinar series aims to help stakeholders tackle some of the biggest challenges confronting shipping by putting forward our DNV GL experts to navigate these topics.

Hosted by DNV GL's environmental experts Eirik Nyhus and Tore Longva, this week's webinar episode - entitled: Navigating environmental regulations in 2020 - what next? - looked at how the industry and its regulators are working to bring down green-house gas as well as emissions to air and water.

More than 1,700 subscribers joined the discussion, which touched on progress in implementing the IMO's GHG strategy, the energy efficiency of ships (e.g. EEDI) and the European Green Deal.

Speaking after the webinar, Eirik Nyhus, Director of Environment at DNV GL - Maritime, said:

"Even though lockdown measures have meant that IMO meetings are currently on hold, we must not lose sight of the regulatory challenges ahead. Ships are assets that have a long lifespan, which makes it essential that the industry has confidence in the requirements and enforcement over the long-term.

"The aim of this webinar was to help stakeholders better navigate the regulations which will impact them long after the crisis is over. DNV GL - Maritime is proud to be a strong voice for this issue and will continue to help the sector navigate and keep pace with the latest issues."
