DNV GL launches first digital certification configurator for wind turbines

First interactive certificate configurator to deliver real-time certification overview, helping streamline tendering and project planning for wind turbines

HAMBURG, Germany – 15 October 2018 - DNV GL, the world’s largest resource of independent energy experts and certification body, today announced the launch of MyCertificate – the first digital certification support tool for wind turbines after introducing it to stakeholders at WindEnergy 2018.

As the wind energy market matures, supply chains are becoming increasingly complex with turbine manufacturers using multiple variants of each component type – often with different specifications and / or suppliers. This allows turbine manufacturers to optimize turbine types to specific site conditions through different configurations. However, to ensure reliability and customer confidence, each configuration must be built from certified components and have its own certificate before it can be deployed. This can take a considerable amount of time and effort on the turbine manufacturers part.

In consultation with turbine manufacturers, DNV GL has developed and launched the MyCertificate app to help reduce this effort. Built on DNV GL’s secure Veracity digital platform, MyCertificate offers users a real-time overview of all component variants used in a particular turbine type. They can then immediately check the certification status of any custom configuration requested by their customer and generate a tailored certificate for that configuration. The self-generated certificate includes a QR code, allowing turbine customers to quickly and easily check the authenticity of the certificate.

“Digitalization and the Veracity platform give us a great opportunity to develop new tools and ways of working that add value for our customers – not just in their interaction with us but throughout their business. MyCertificate helps improve efficiency for wind turbine manufacturers during tendering and project planning, allowing them to see exactly what has and hasn’t been certified and deliver the precise certificate their customer needs at the time they need it,” says Kim Mørk, Executive Vice President, Renewables Certification at DNV GL.

The MyCertificate app is available now to all wind turbine manufacturers who are registered on DNV GL’s Veracity platform.
