DNV-RP-0585 Seismic design of wind power plants

Recommended practice

Edition 2026-06

This recommended practice (RP) provides principles, technical recommendations and guidance for the seismic design of wind power plants.

The emphasis is put on the best practice for designing to safeguard against complex natural phenomena, such as earthquakes. This RP has been created because it is recognized that earlier design guidance and standards are insufficient for seismic design or could be interpreted in different ways.

This recommended practice supplements DNV-ST-0126, DNV-ST-0145, and DNV-ST-0437.

In case the IEC 61400 series of standards is selected as basic design standard, this document may be used as a supplement covering seismic design aspects.

This recommended practice has been written for worldwide application. National and governmental regulations may include requirements in excess of the provisions stated in this recommended practice depending on the size, type, location and intended service of the wind power plant.
