Learning Objectives:

Day 1:

  • Introduction to RAMS
  • Introduction to railway safety
  • Common safety methods for risk evaluation
  • Introduction to Systems Engineering
  • Standards EN50126-1 and EN50126-2
  • Case study – interactive session

Day 2:

  • Safety analysis (EN50126-2)
  • Case Study – interactive session
  • Introduction to EN 50128 / EN 50716
  • Case Study – interactive session

Day 3:

  • Functional Safety - Railways/50126-2
  • Introduction to EN 50129
  • Introduction to Independent Safety Assessment (ISA)
  • Case Study – interactive session
  • Factors Influencing RAMS Management
  • Review of material/ Discussion

  • Group exercise

Duration: 4 days

Entry requirements: No formal prerequisites are required. This course is designed to be accessible to professionals across the railway sector, and while a general understanding of the railway environment would be beneficial, it is not essential. It is particularly well suited to engineers, project managers, safety professionals, and others seeking a strong foundation in railway RAMS principles and their practical application.

Assessment: Participants are assessed through a structured end-of-course evaluation designed to test advanced understanding, technical judgement, and practical application of RAMS principles. Successful participants who achieve the required pass mark will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Certificate and validity: Participants who successfully complete the course and meet the required assessment standard will receive a DNV Certificate of Completion, recognising foundational training in railway RAMS. The certificate is issued without expiry, providing a lasting record of professional development and technical achievement.

Delivery method: Delivered as an expert-led learning experience either face-to-face or online depending on location. The course combines specialist instruction, facilitated discussion, and applied workshop sessions to maximise practical value for participants. Alternative delivery formats can also be tailored to client requirements, audience profile, and cohort size.
