Making computational fluid dynamics easy

Historically, CFD is complex to use, resulting in lower adoption on projects and compromises on safety.

The introduction of CFD to Phast reduces the barriers to entry. Scenarios are easy to setup, requiring no prior knowledge of CFD, and results are easy to interpret.

Phast CFD extensions powered by KFX software will provide users with the confidence to solve complex problems in a more intuitive and practical manner.

Modelling the impact of 3D surroundings

Three CFD extensions powered by KFX software are currently available: Phast CFD pool fire, Phast CFD jet fire and Phast CFD dispersion.

The CFD fire extensions provide results in the form of flame shapes, and temperature and radiation isosurfaces and isocontours in a rich, three-dimensional viewer. Conversely, the CFD dispersion extension provides results in the form of temperature and concentrations isosurfaces and isocontours for unignited flammable releases.

Phast CFD - pool fires extension

This extension supports detailed modelling of circular and rectangular-shaped pool fires, assuming immediate ignition of a pool fixed in size.

Our customers use this for tank and bund design, escalation potential, emergency response preparedness and much more.

Phast CFD - jet fires extension

This extension supports detailed modelling of standalone jet fire scenarios based on jet source terms which can be calculated from pressure, temperature and hole size.

Our customers use this for designing fire walls, determining radiation from a flare, layout design and much more.

Phast CFD - dispersion extension

This extension offers detailed modelling of flammable materials dispersing in the atmosphere, accommodating both single-phase and two-phase dispersion scenarios. It takes into account interactions with obstacles that might influence dispersion.

It is valuable for applications such as environmental impact assessments, emergency response planning, air quality management, and safety studies, including hazardous area classifications. In addition to displaying predefined and user-defined concentration and temperature levels, users can visualize spray droplets and pool depths for liquid and two-phase releases. This enhances the understanding of fluid dynamics in shallow pools.

Pricing and licensing

Individual

Plans are available for local installation on your PC or pre-installed virtual machine. Access is available from 1 day to 1 year for one single user. These extensions require an active version of Phast 8.6 or newer.

Network (Concurrent)

Recommended when there is need for multiple users at the same time.

Access for multiple simultaneous users where the product license is installed on a network server and software installation on the individual user's machine. These extensions require an active version of Phast 8.6 or newer.

Frequently asked questions

Answer Answer Answer Answer

Answer

The CFD calculations in Phast are powered by KFX, which means that the same scenario in Phast CFD and KFX will produce the same results. KFX, however, has some advanced features not available in Phast CFD.
Answer Answer Answer Answer

Answer

You can create custom 3D objects (cuboid, cylinders) directly in Phast. Alternatively, there are third party solutions for creating your own 3D models.

Answer Answer Answer Answer

Answer

Yes, they are as they are separate and independent extensions. You can purchase / lease one or both.
