Phast™ and Safeti™ Dust Explosions add-on
Model dust explosion risk, with confidence
Dust explosions can cause serious injury, facility damage and expensive downtime across industries that handle combustible dust. The new Dust explosions add-on available in Phast and Safeti (since version 9.1) uses model based on China standard of GB 15605 of Specifications for pressure venting of dust explosion (2024), helping engineers design venting systems that meet stringent regulatory standards.
This explosion model will simulate the consequences of dust explosions, such as overpressure effects and potential damage, and help determine protective measures for personnel and infrastructure within facilities for organizations across industries such as agriculture, food processing, woodworking, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, metal processing, mining and waste management.
Venting optimization and impact assessments
Calculate the optimal vent area for industrial processes. The add-on enables this calculation based on expected overpressure, and offers detailed tables of vented areas and reduced pressures. This model allows users to fine-tune venting systems for specific processes, enhancing safety and efficiency.
Additionally, the Phast and Safeti Dust explosions add-on provides insight into how far the effects of dust explosions can reach, including external fireball effects and external overpressure distributions. It provides data on peak overpressure and affected regions, and the distribution of external overpressures, enabling thorough risk assessments and helping prioritise effective safety measures where they are most needed.
For Safeti users, dust explosion likelihood feeds directly into your facility overall risk profile, and as part of quantitative risk assessments (QRAs), it will provide your leadership teams a clear and quantified basis for investment and insurance decisions, not just engineering output.
Suitable for a range of industries and uses
The add-on is used across agriculture, food processing, woodworking, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, metal processing, mining, and waste management, and any other environment where dust hazards are present. It provides comprehensive modelling of dust explosions, making it an essential tool for managing these consequences and risks.
Specific considerations for equipment such as silos and dust collectors will be included in future versions.
