ISCC Certification for Sustainable, Circular and Renewable Supply Chains
ISCC certification provides independent assurance of responsible sourcing and transparent supply chains. Where required by the applicable scheme and scope, it also covers greenhouse gas (GHG) data and calculations. Certification can support access to regulated and voluntary markets and credible communication of sustainability claims.
The ISCC certification system comprises several schemes with requirements for sustainability, traceability and chain of custody. ISCC EU supports compliance with the applicable requirements of the EU Renewable Energy Directive; other schemes serve voluntary and aviation markets.
What is ISCC certification?
ISCC EU is recognised under the EU Renewable Energy Directive framework and supports economic operators in demonstrating compliance with applicable sustainability and GHG-saving requirements.
ISCC PLUS addresses voluntary markets for bio-based, circular and renewable materials. ISCC CORSIA and ISCC CORSIA PLUS address eligible aviation fuel supply chains. The applicable scheme depends on your materials, activities and intended market.
ISCC applies to operators producing, processing, storing or trading eligible materials across a wide range of supply chains. The requirements depend on the certification scheme and scope and may cover feedstock origin, sustainability criteria, traceability, chain of custody, waste and residue status, and GHG information.
ISCC establishes requirements for responsible sourcing, protection of land with high biodiversity value or high carbon stock, and environmental and social safeguards where applicable. Audits also assess the records and controls needed to trace certified material through the supply chain.
ISCC requirements may include:

How to get certified to ISCC
Steps to get certified to ISCC depend on your scheme, scope, materials and supply-chain configuration. An audit can take place only after the ISCC HUB registration process has been completed and approved.

Determine the applicable ISCC scheme, activities, sites, input and output materials, and intended markets. DNV can provide information about the certification process and agree the audit scope with you.

Enter into a certification agreement with DNV for the applicable scheme and scope

Submit your registration application in the ISCC HUB and select DNV as your Certification Body. The application must be reviewed and approved and the registration finalized before the certification audit takes place.

Implement the applicable ISCC requirements. Prepare records for suppliers and materials, traceability, chain of custody and mass balance, sustainability declarations, and GHG calculations where required. Use the relevant ISCC system documents and audit procedures to assess your readiness.

A qualified DNV auditor reviews the documentation, material flows, relevant sites and controls against the applicable ISCC requirements. The audit is generally conducted on-site, subject to the scheme rules and the specific audit circumstances.

Where non-conformities are identified, provide the required corrective actions within the applicable deadlines. Following a positive certification decision, DNV issues the certificate and submits the required information to ISCC.

ISCC certificates are generally valid for one year, and annual recertification is required. Additional surveillance audits may apply depending on the scheme, scope and risk profile.
